Dr Alex Mastakov  BVSc, MVM, FANZCVS

Specialist in Avian Medicine & Surgery 

Alex graduated from James Cook University in 2013, after which he worked in a variety of Veterinary practices in QLD and NSW (mixed, small animal, and avian/exotic). He relocated to Gatton to undertake an avian medicine and surgery residency and Doctor of Veterinary Clinical Science postgraduate degree at the University of Queensland in 2018 under Dr Bob Doneley.

He has completed an externship in avian medicine and surgery at the Abu Dhabi Falcon Hospital and a Master of Veterinary Medicine Degree through Massey University. He attained membership in the Avian Chapter of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2018, completed a residency in Avian Medicine and Surgery in 2021 and successfully sat his Fellowships in Avian Medicine and Surgery.

Alex has also completed a Doctor of Veterinary Science Degree at the University of Queensland with his thesis focused on alfaxalone anaesthesia in birds. Alex is a registered Avian Specialist and the director of the Unusual Pet Vets Clinic on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. He has a keen interest in avian and exotic pain management, anaesthesia, and surgery.
